History
The Butler name for our house is taken directly out of the pages of local history books. Specifically where our house sits is on the former Butler family farm. Lt. Col. John Butler led a militia known as Butler’s Rangers across the Northern Frontier through New York, Pensylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Virginia and Kentucky during the American Revolutionary War between 1777-1784. In June of 1774 Lt. Col. John Butler was rewarded with a land grant by the British Crown, in part where our house is located today. Be sure to take the short walk to the bitter end of Butler St to visit his private family gravesite, he died in 1796. And also just before the bridge, head to the south to see his memorial bust and original homestead site within the St. Andrews Glen neighbourhood.
